What is TAL Floor Primer?
TAL Floor Primer is a modified latex liquid primer designed for use on porous substrates. It ensures a reliable bond between the surface and the overlying underlayment or waterproofing compound. Suitable for use under self-levelling screeds, waterproofing membranes, and as a pre-tile primer on highly porous surfaces such as brickwork. The 5L pack covers up to 25 m² per coat on standard porosity substrates.
When to Use TAL Floor Primer
Use TAL Floor Primer before applying:
- TAL Superscreed
- TAL Screedmaster and TAL Screedmaster Industrial
- TAL Superscreed SL Underlayment Compound
- TAL Superflex Waterproofing
- TAL Sureproof Waterproofing
- Cementitious tile adhesives on porous substrates
Coverage
Approximately 4–5 m² per litre per coat, depending on substrate porosity. Very porous surfaces will require more than one coat. Each additional coat must be applied in a cross-direction to the previous coat, once touch dry.
Application
Sweep or vacuum the surface thoroughly before application. Apply by brush or roller only — do not spray, as spraying may hinder surface penetration.
For TAL Superscreed / Superflex / Sureproof / Cementitious Tile Adhesives: Allow 1–2 hours (tack-free) before applying the overlying compound.
For TAL Screedmaster / Screedmaster Industrial / Superscreed SL on porous surfaces: Apply 2 coats in cross-directions. Allow 12 hours minimum before applying the underlayment. Failure to allow 12 hours will result in bubbles and pinholes during drying.
For smooth and dense surfaces under TAL Screedmaster: Prime first with TAL Floorkey Slurry, allow to dry, then apply TAL Floor Primer. Allow 12 hours before screed application.
Minimum curing periods for new surfaces:
- New concrete — 6 weeks
- New screed — 4 weeks
- New brickwork — 4 weeks
- New render — 2 weeks

Storage
Store in original sealed packaging in dry internal conditions between 10°C and 30°C, out of direct sunlight. Do not store directly on a concrete floor. Ensure lid is tightly sealed.
Limitations
- Do not dilute with water
- Do not apply in rain, wet conditions, or at temperatures below 5°C
- Do not expose to running water until fully cured
