What is Quarter Round?
Quarter round is a decorative molding with a rounded surface that resembles a quarter of a circle. It's a versatile finishing element for your flooring projects.
When to Use Quarter Round with Flooring:
Quarter round is commonly used for several purposes when installing new flooring:
- Concealing Expansion Gaps: It's most often used to neatly cover the essential expansion gap left between your flooring (like hardwood, laminate, or vinyl plank) and the wall. This gap allows the flooring to expand and contract naturally.
- With Existing Skirtings: If you're keeping your existing skirting boards (baseboards), quarter round can be installed directly on top of them to provide a smooth, clean transition and cover any slight imperfections.
- Without Skirtings: Quarter round can also be used on its own as a decorative edge, especially in situations where skirtings are not present or desired. This offers a streamlined and modern finish.
